The Gatorade high school sports award lost its luster, so we enlisted judges, winners and media for insights and direction. They urged us to emphasize the prestige of its “Hall of Fame” of winners, upgraded the award and update promotional materials, We redesigned all aspects of the Award, including changing its name (Circle of Champions to The Gatorade Player of the Year) and the trophy itself. We also boosted the hometown prominence of the winner, and dominated the hometown media when the award was presented. National awareness also was expanded as a result. The Gatorade Player of the Year regained its prominence as the high school sports award and with the important youth market.
